When the people of Sturt elected me in 1993, I was a young lawyer. Since then I have married Carolyn - we have four children. I have learnt a great deal being your local member over that time and I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with many local people to achieve things of lasting benefit to the local area.
Whether it’s been:
- Volunteer Small Equipment Grants
- Saving Lot 100 for the Morialta Conservation Park when it looked like it was being sold to developers
- Major capital grants for road and school infrastructure
- Creating a Youth Forum for Sturt so I could hear from young people
- Fencing of local playgrounds
- Pushing the State Government for traffic changes that put people first
- Community water initiatives locally
Or the bigger projects that benefit South Australia like:
- Pushing the State Government to invest in water infrastructure for Adelaide
- Technical colleges for South Australia
- Road infrastructure projects for both Sturt and the State
- Pushing the Howard Government’s National Water Plan for the Murray Darling Basin
- Investing in Our Schools Programme funding
- Lobbying to bring the Air Warfare Destroyer project to Adelaide
I have been using the experience I have gained to deliver for you.
I chose to seek to serve in Parliament because I believe that politics is about service to your local community. I believed that when I entered Parliament and I still believe it today.
