Patrick Secker has been representing the electorate of Barker as the Federal Member since 1998, being successful in five elections 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2010.
Patrick is passionate about getting a better deal for rural Australians and in particular his constituency. He listens to his constituent’s issues and ideas and puts them forward to influence policy making.
While in Opposition, Patrick continues to strive to gain financial grants for the electorate of Barker to ensure that it continues to develop economically, socially and environmentally. He also takes his Parliamentary Committees work very seriously and utilises the varied Committee roles to ensure that the needs of rural and regional Australia are foremost in policy development.
Patrick believes that if the Federal Government decides to compulsorily acquire water licences which have only been from willing sellers up until now, that any compulsory acquisition should be fair over the whole basin and take into account that efficiency dividends from past infrastructure upgrades and any compulsory acquisition should come with compensation.
