Simon Birmingham has served our country and the Liberal Party with absolute distinction.

In numerous roles, Simon has consistently shown command over policy, skill in communication, sound judgement and fundamental decency.

This made him a natural choice to be Leader of the Government and the Opposition in the Senate, where he has been a steady hand in challenging times.

As Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon has been a voice of moral clarity and reason, standing up for Australia’s interests and in support of our allies.

As Minister for Finance, Simon was part of a team that led one of the world’s strongest economic recoveries from the COVID pandemic.

As Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Simon negotiated and landed free trade agreements that opened doors for Australian businesses and opportunities for our future.

As Minister and Assistant Minister for Education and Training, Simon landed the delivery of needs-based schools funding, stood up for parental choice and common sense and helped to ensure job-ready Australians were able to fill record numbers of jobs being created.

As Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment, Simon helped deliver practical, grassroots environmental action for the Murray Darling Basin and its communities.

At all times, Simon has been a been an outstanding representative for South Australia and a dedicated servant of the Liberal Party and Australia.

We thank Simon for his outstanding contribution and wish him and his family the very best for their future.
