An elected Dutton Coalition Government will provide up to $35 million to support the rebuilding of the Adass Israel Synagogue community centre following the horrific arson attack in December 2024.
These funds will allow the Adass Israel Synagogue to build back stronger than ever, with upgraded security to prevent an incident like this ever happening again.
The burning and firebombing of the Adass Israel Synagogue was not just an attack on the Jewish community. It was an attack on the Australian way of life.
Antisemitic incidents in Australia have surged by more than 700 per cent since the 7 October 2023 terrorist attacks against Israel, and none have been more shocking than the torching of the Adass Israel Synagogue. It was a day of shame for our nation.
Now, it is more important than ever that we show solidarity with the Jewish community.
The rebuilding of the Adass Israel Synagogue sends a powerful message to the perpetrators of this abhorrent crime that we will not be silenced or intimidated in the face of this hatred.
We will rebuild, and rebuild stronger, in the face of this act of criminal hatred and terror.
The Coalition’s commitment today builds on our previous commitments to support the Jewish community and combat antisemitism, including:
Creating a new, dedicated Antisemitism Taskforce led by the Australian Federal Police to investigate crimes against the Jewish community and refer any visa holders involved in acts of antisemitism for immediate cancellation and deportation;
Establishing a judicial inquiry into antisemitism at Australian universities;
Delivering the $32.5 million security funding package requested by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry without any strings attached, including funding armed guards at schools and synagogues;
Providing $7.5 million over three years in additional funding to Crime Stoppers to expand its operations and help address the antisemitism and extremism crisis.
A Dutton Coalition Government will take the strong and decisive action required to end the vile scourge of antisemitism afflicting our country. Enough is enough.
