Between 2016 and 2023, the construction union, the CFMEU, was fined by courts for 1,600 law breaches. It has been described by a Federal Court Judge as the “most recidivist corporate offender in Australian history”.

The Greens voted to abolish the building industry watchdog, the Australian Building and Construction Commission.

Last year, even after reports of the CFMEU’s infiltration by bikies and underworld figures, the Greens joined CFMEU protests against the appointment of an Administrator.¹⁰
